It’s a great buy if you are curious about the Illamasqua range as individually they would cumulatively cost £70. I went to the Flagship store in London and was served by the very helpful Mark who made my shopping experience so much fun and exciting.
Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
This is one of my favourite foundations of all time. It gives a medium to full buildable coverage but also looks natural on the skin and is not cakey at all. Perfect if you need more coverage especially covering any red pigmentation on the cheeks as this cancels it out effectively. Amazing shade selection and I like to wear this when I am going out for the evening and want to achieve a flawless base. I’d say its good for Combination, Normal and Dry skin. I wear SB09.
Illamasqua Skin Base Lift
OK, so HOW pretty is the packaging? There should be diamonds in this not a concealer. I digress…..This may have kicked my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to the curb! It provides full brightening coverage for my under eye dark circles as it has colour correcting peach tones. I love it because even though it provides opaque coverage it is not cakey at all. I like to apply this with my fingers as I find brushes tend to leave too much debris in the pan which isn’t hygienic! I wear Medium 1.
Illamasqua Hydra Veil
This contains sodium hyaluronate which is a moisture boosting ingredient. The hydra veil can be used instead of a moisturiser and has a gel consistency. It rubs on to the face easily leaving it tacky so that the foundation glides on. I’ve heard that it’s good for both dry and oily skin and I like it on me. The dinky spatula also means that it is hygenic -horray!
The Barry M Natural Glow palette contains 6 neutral eye shadows: 4 shimmer shades and 2 matte colours. There is also a pastel satin pink blusher, two applicators and a handy largish mirror. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with quality of these eye shadows -there is little if any fall down and they blend easily. I am not bowled over by the blusher -it would probably work better as a highlighter as it’s quite sheer.
I particularly like the three shimmer eye shadows closest to the blush which consist of a metallic grey, brown and dark brown as they give a good colour pay off. I am wearing the metallic grey in the photo below (with primer) and this lasted 7 hours with no creasing.
This is a great all in one neutral kit for when you are on the go and want to instantly transform your look from day to night. The packaging instantly reminds me of the Original Urban Decay Naked Palette and it’s a pretty good condensed dupe.
This is billed as a ‘moisture must-have’ and I couldn’t agree more. If you have normal to dry skin, this may well be worth a look as I have seen a visible improvement in the condition of my skin since using this trio. I periodically suffer with dry patches around my chin area and two to three days after using this they simply disappear.
I use the HydraQuench cream and serum at night and apply the face mask once a week. The cream is thick, rich and emollient but it isn’t oily and absorbs quickly. It has a very pleasant scent that reminds me of sun cream and it doesn’t irritate my skin. The serum is light and has a watery consistency. They all contain Hyaluronic Acid which holds one thousand times its weight in water and enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture and therefore skin appears plumper and smoother.
This is my current favourite SOS treatment for dry and dehydrated skin as it leaves my skin feeling nothing short of amazing. This is my second repurchase and is a staple in my winter skincare regime.
It’s currently on offer -normally £34.00 now £23.80 at Clarins.
I have wanted to try the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector for absolute AGES. I plan to use this 10ml sample size as a highlighter on the cheekbones and didn’t want to pay £30+ for a full size version of it. Also Becca is difficult to buy in the UK as it’s an Australian brand. I discovered that You Beauty had included this gem in this month’s beauty box and ordered one immediately.
I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the idea of the You Beauty Box. It differs from Glossybox as you get to choose 2 samples which you would like to try rather having no idea what you are being sent. This is handy if you want to customise your box and in my case I bought it specifically for the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. I also wanted to try the Lola Matte Long Lasting Lipstick – this is a new makeup line which will be sold at M&S.
The major advantage of this beauty box is that it is only £6.95 INCLUDING postageand I’ve also received a yummy chocolate bar and Jimmy Choo perfume sample. RESULT!
Winter is now fully upon us and as a result, my lips have become extremely dry and parched. My go-to lip balms and chapsticks don’t seem to soothe the dryness for long and my lips are soon left feeling sore and parched again. I was in Boots a couple of weeks ago and I whimsically purchased Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Lip Protectant. Firstly, I love the limited edition red Christmas packaging (the lip creams usually come in a white bullet). Secondly, I love how it provides an instant surge of moisture to my lips. I have really noticed a dramatic improvement in the condition of my lips.
It’s a great overnight lip treatment as I apply a generous layer at night and find that by morning my lips feel soft, moisturised and rejuvenated. I apply liberally during the day and can wear my lipstick over the top. It contains emollients and Vitamin E which have healing and moisturising properties. It has the same formulation as the cult classic Eight Hour Cream except that it comes in a lipstick format. You can even use it in the summer as it contains SPF 15.
A must have Winter Essential to treat very dry, chapped or sore lips.
Sleek really do bring it when it comes to intense vibrant colours and their offerings for a matte finish liquid lipstick in the Sleek Matte Me Lip Collection does not disappoint. They initially go on like a lip gloss but dry into a matte finish. I do love a matte lip- very on trend and these lip lacquers are a great way to achieve a bold statement lip in just one coat.
Rioja Red and Party Pink are my favourites and are particularly perfect for a party pout.
Matte lipsticks can be drying so I’d suggest exfoliating your lips before application and applying a generous layer of lip balm so that they don’t dry out or look crusty! While experimenting with these, I would recommend applying only one coat as if you apply too many layers it will get flakey.
They come in the following 6 shades and at £4.99 a pop:
