A winter blush – Illamasqua Cream Blush in Seduce

Illamasqua Seduce Blush

Illamasqua Seduce Blush

I’m going to fess up and admit that it’s taken me a while to use Illamasqua’s Cream Blush in Seduce because quite frankly I found the colour quite strong and scary. It’s described as a warm rosy pink -I’d also add that it’s a dark raspberry shade with a creamy consistency. Illamasqua is known for colour intensity -a little goes a long way so I applied a little to the apples of my cheeks using a stippling brush. Surprisingly, I actually ended up adding another layer and even dabbed some on to my lips. You can wear this blush 2 ways – sheer or opaque and there is definitely an art to applying it – build the colour up one layer at a time. It’s really easy to blend and leaves the cheeks with a rosy dewy finish- not oily or shiny.  It just melts in to the skin.

I’ll definitely reach for this more come winter time when my skin feels dull and is drier because it really livens up my complexion and will be a good alternative to a powder blush if I’m suffering from any dry winter patches. The blush wore off after 4 hours on my normal to dry skin, so not the greatest staying power but I like the dewy finish enough to top up during the day.

Illamasqua Seduce Cream Blush would look phenomenal on women of colour, I’d also recommend it for medium to deep skin tones.

Available for £21.50 at Illamasqua

Bourjois Peach on the Beach Color Boost

bourjois peach on the beach

bourjois peach on the beachFollowing in the footsteps of the Clinique Chubby Sticks, high street beauty brands like Revlon and Bourjois have released their own better and cheaper crayons.  My favourite so far has to be Bourjois Peach on the Beach – a peachy shade. Really glossy but not in a sticky or gloopy way more like a moisturising lip balm with gorgeous colour. As with most balms, I don’t find this lip crayon long wearing as it tends to wear off during eating and drinking but topping up is so easy and you don’t need a mirror. I love the shade – it’s so pretty, universally flattering and a fab everyday shade.

Available for £7.99 at Boots and Amazon.

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation Review

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation Review

I’ll keep this short and sweet – the Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation is beautiful. I’m shade B50 and the colour match is spot on. It’s a medium coverage foundation which evens out my skin tone nicely without completely masking my freckles – see photos above.  I was actually quite impressed with the coverage – even though it’s medium coverage it doesn’t look cakey as YSL have used a soft focus gel in the formulation rather than an opaque powder which tends to mask the skin. If you want a lighter finish just use less than a full pump. It feels lovely and light on the skin, blends easily and gives my skin a natural radiance without being too dewy or greasy. It lasted 8-9 hours on me and I didn’t need to touch up.  It’s not as dewy as Vitalumiere and is similar to Vitalumiere Aqua in terms of a semi matte finish.  Even though it’s SPF19 I haven’t experienced any flash back and damn, it does photograph well.

I’d say this foundation would suit all skin types except really dry or really oily skin.

Love that it’s available in a whopping 22 shades which have been split into 3 groups depending on your skin tone -rose, beige and gold. When the sun actually re-appears in London, I’ll probably have to pick up BR50 which has a more golden undertone. The glass bottle and gold cap screams luxury and we all know I am a sucker for that.

It gets a massive thumbs up from me and has earned a coveted place on my beauty shelf.

A fabulous foundation.

Available for £30.50 at Boots and Sephora.

TOPSHOP BRIGHTON ROCK LIPSTICK

Topshop Brighton Rock Lipstick

Topshop Brighton Rock Lipstick

When I think of Topshop, I think of clothing and the latest fashion trends. Makeup and Beauty isn’t the first thing that comes to mind but I was pleasantly surprised on a recent visit. I was impressed by the bright and vibrant lipstick offerings – the shade range reminded me of MAC lipsticks and at £8 is nearly half the price of a MAC lippie – £15.50. I found myself at the till purchasing Brighton Rock – a vivid, bright pink lipstick.

Brighton Rock is a satin matte finish lipstick which is quite moisturising and very pigmented which gives a great colour pay-off – one quick swipe on your lips and you’re ready to go. The lipstick also wears off really nicely and I love the cute name which instantly brings back happy memories of lazy summers on Brighton Beach.

A fabulous colour – a daring shade of pink!

I’d defo recommend checking these out and swatching them to see how vibrant the colours are.

Available at Topshop for £8.

MAC Lady Danger

MAC LADY DANGER SAM LOVES

MAC Lady Danger – a phenomenal matte lipstick.

I just can’t get enough of this – it’s a bright, vivid, orangey red that adds a perfect pop of colour. I’ve been wearing this look a lot during the day – with a bit of eyeliner, usual lashings of mascara and blush.

I’m happy to report it also wears off really nicely leaving a slight stain on the lips. I’d also recommend prepping the lips beforehand with lip balm to prevent lips from drying out.

Tip– orange based red lipsticks like Lady Danger look best with a peach blush and for this look I used NARS Orgasm on my cheeks.

I must add that the lipstick is slightly more orangey than my camera has managed to capture.

Yep, a total show stopper!

Lips: MAC Lady Danger – available at MAC and Debenhams
Foundation: Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation – Boots
Blush: NARS Orgasm – Sephora and Nars
Mascara: Maybelline The Falsies – Boots
Eyeliner: Maybelline Gel Eyeliner – Boots

Rocco & Rips

Sam Loves

Sam Loves

When all else fails, I throw on black.

Today, I mixed it up with a pair of ripped jeans, a semi-sheer blouse and Rocco. Rocco’s rose gold hardware and the ripped jeans add an edgy rock chick feel but it’s smartened up with a pair of suede tie up heels. I like to call it Edgy Chic. I’m loving ripped jeans and the tantalising tease of skin peeping through. Oh so me.

  • Jeans – Zara – I picked these up in the current sale. Similar ones that I also like at Asos and River Island.
  • Blouse – Primark
  • BagRocco Alexander Wang – read my full review here
  • Shoes– Aldo (old) Similar ones that I also like at Aldo and ShopBop.
