One of my friends asked me to make a video about the makeup I would wear on a hot summer’s day -something that could withstand the heat. As we are experiencing a mini heat wave in London I thought that was a fab video idea! So here’s me slapping on my most trusty makeup that are both long lasting and sweat proof. A lot of the makeup is the same that I chose to wear for my wedding day.
I’m a huge beauty box fan – it’s a great way to try new products at a reasonable if not bargain price! Here I share the best value beauty boxes – including the Glamour Summer Edit box and the Origins beauty box. If there are any other beauty boxes that I need in my life – let me know! x
Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream is akin to adding a second layer of pretty, natural, radiant skin and I really wasn’t expecting it to last all day – but it does. You’ll be able to tell from my ‘naked face’ photo above left that I have a generous sprinkle of freckles on my face. I also often suffer with fatigued and sallow looking skin so I was interested to try the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream because it claims to colour correct problem areas on the skin such as fatigue, redness and dark spots. I wanted to see how well it performed as I’m already a big fan of Bourjois Healthy Mix and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum.
First up is the packaging – I’m not a fan of the squeezy tube, it can get a bit messy if you don’t twist the lid tightly back on. I much prefer a pump dispenser. I squeezed a 20p sized blob on the back of my hand and blended it in using my Sigma F80 – Flat Topped Kabuki Brush.
The results: 9/10 – my new fave high street foundation!
It was really easy to blend and I immediately noticed that it provided medium coverage – muting down my freckles nicely. Even though it’s medium coverage, I must say that it looks really natural on the skin. You can’t see it. I especially liked that it evened out areas where I have pigmentation (mouth and chin area) and even though my freckles are less apparent, you can still see them. It’s a satin finish and gives the skin a lovely natural and subtle glow and it wears really well during the day. This is a really lovely base for normal, dry and mature skins. I also found that it’s also a good colour match on me – I have shade 33.
What I like most is that my skin still looks and feels like skin which is really important to me – check out the last photo to see what I mean. I’m really happy I picked this up and it will be a nice addition to my already growing Bourjois foundation collection.
You Beauty Boxes are my favourite monthly beauty box – I’ve tried a fair few over the years but what sets You Beauty apart is:
Choice – you can select 2 products from the monthly shortlist. This is the best feature as you have control over what they send you
Quality – the monthly shortlist contains items from well known brands Murad, Nails Inc, St Tropex, Nuxe, Balance me etc. I find a lot of other beauty boxes are stuffed with products from new and sometimes obscure brands that I’ve never heard of before and wouldn’t even want if they were free
Price – only £6.95 a month including postage and packaging. This is considerably less than most beauty boxes
Size – The products are travel size so they are a decent size
Also, there’s always a little excitement to come home to find the little box waiting to be opened and devoured!
You Beauty Box June 2016 – Contents & Review
From June 2016’s shortlist, I chose the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser 30ml. I love acid toners and wanted to try this cleanser. Murad is well known for luxury skincare so I’m looking forward to seeing how this performs as I haven’t tried any of their range before. It’s a good size and will probably last me 2 weeks. The full size 200ml retails for £34.00 at Murad so this box is offering you a really cheap way of trying out a high end cleanser.
Another selection was Nails Inc nail polish in Porchester Square. It’s the full size version and it’s selling on Feel Unique for £14! You’ve made your money back just on this! Porchester square is one of their bestselling muted mushroom polishes and can be worn day or night for a chic nail look – again something I’ve been wanting to try for ages. Can’t wait to slap this on my nails.
Devil’s claw was a standard inclusion and it’s a red liquid that you can add into a bath to help soothe any aches and pains. It’s got a herbally scent and I’m curious to try this.
So that’s this month’s You Beauty box round up. If you’d like to see sneek previews of future boxes then follow me on Instagram. My username is heysamloves – let me know that you’ve come from my blog!
I subscribed to the monthly box on their website – You Beauty
I picked up L’Oreal’s Color Riche Eva’s Nude on a recent trip to Boots- it was an impulse buy but I’d always wanted to try the range out as each lipstick is named after famous film stars and celebrities. I picked up Eva’s nude – named after Eva Longoria.
The packaging is nice – each lipstick is signed by the star it’s named after. The lipstick is really light and sheer and gives you a hint of colour – a nice healthy sheen. It goes on smoothly but the finish is a little uneven so you’ll need to rub your lips together after. I like the colour – it’s a dusky pinky nude and I’d recommend it if you don’t like wearing full on lipsticks and prefer a more natural look. It would be great for work as it’s nude and barely there.
I love buying based on friends and youtube recommendations so I thought I’d share all the things that I have been loving with you. These are items that I couldn’t live without and that are staples for me. Let me know what things you’re loving at the moment – share the love!
I’ve got a few makeup posts in the pipeline so keep checking back in on samloves.com x
I needed to pick up some housey bits and have filmed the little gems that I bought. Love the cushions and rose gold candle holders. One can never have too much rose gold right?
I’m really enjoying sharing the little things I pick up with you.
If you see an nice affordable cushions – leave me a comment so I can check them out too x
Today’s post is about the makeup that I wore in my recent Wedding lookbook video.
It was very much a peachy themed look and if you are looking for a long wearing makeup look I’d defo recommend starting with Illamasqua Skin Base foundation (I wear shade 04). I have lots of freckles so I like it because it’s high coverage and evens out my skin tone and provides a really good base for my makeup. It’s a good foundation for normal and combination skins. If you’re dry like me, you’ll need to use a good moisturiser beforehand. I use Oilatum Natural Face Repair Cream because my face is dry as a desert.
I concealed with my favourite Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (I wear Custard)- this is not only good for under the eyes but also blemish concealing. I like it because it’s quite moisturising and not drying. It’s also really easy to blend which is a must for me.
I popped MAC Springsheen and Milani’s Luminoso on my cheeks. Recently, I like mixing my blushes together as when I blush I’m never just one colour. I like creating a bit of depth to the cheeks with two blushes.
I then cracked open my current eyeshadow palette Lorac Unzipped Palette and used a mix of Unattainable, Uncensored, Unspoken and Unreal on my lids. These shadows are highly pigmented so a little goes a long way and they are buttery and super blendable. This is my second Lorac palette and I’m a total convert.
I recently got married and thought it would be fun to make a wedding themed video starting with affordable wedding dresses under £100. You don’t need to spend a fortune to look good and this video is for brides on a budget looking for alternative wedding dresses available online or on the high street. I hope you find it useful and huge congratulations if you’ve just got engaged or are planning your wedding! This is such an exciting time for you!
