Sam’s Christmas Wishlist 2016

With Christmas round the corner I thought I’d put my Christmas 2016 wishlist together. I’ve never done one before but have often got stuck when people ask me what I’d like – so this is just an aid to give you an idea if someone asks you!

Makeup and Skincare wishlist:

Filmstar Bronze and Glow -Medium to Dark – Charlotte Tilbury £49

I’d absolutely love to get this for Christmas – I love Charlotte tilbury makeup and I love a contour and a beautiful peach blush. The compact is just beautiful in Charlotte’s trademark rose gold packaging. Ooooh la la – you’d see my cheekbones from space with this palette!

Rest & Recharge Gift Set £35 Origins

I’m a faithful origins customer. I’ve been using the plantscription range for the past 2 years and I’m converted. Now that I’ve tried and tested this range, I’d like to try other creams from Origins. The Christmas gift sets are the best value for money and last year I may have picked up 4 gift sets which lasted me the entire year. So this time around I’d really like to try this set:

Merry and Bright Chritmas Cracker – Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel SpaceNK £18.50

This is a much hyped and beauty blogger fave so I’d really like to try this out and see what all the fuss is about. Plus, how cute is the cracker packaging?!

Elf Studio Bronzer £4.56 Amazon

I’ve been wanting to try the American brand Elf for ages and I really like the look of this bronzing palette as the brown shades look quite ashy and light. This is ideal for me as I tend to be heavy handed with my makeup so I’d be interested to try this out. I see this as a soft sculpting palette that’s easy on the wallet.

Clothes glorious clothes:

Mango Pussy Bow Blouse £35.99 ASOS

I need this – my love of tie neck blouses knows no bounds. Granted it’s a bit Austin Powers, but I’m sure I can pull it off!

Mango Lace Shirt £29.99 ASOS

This is equally gorgeous – a lovely blend of black lace and tie neck. Tres sexy!

Joanie Printed Roll Sleeve Shirt £18.00 Boohoo

I love this – the red and floral pattern means that you can either dress this up with a skirt or down with jeans. It’s lovely.

Sculpting Legging Set £25 Marks and Spencer

So if you watch my weekend vlogs and follow me on instagram you’ll know that I recently joined a gym and have been going to a few mid week classes. Unfortunately I don’t think that my primark ‘camel toe’ gym leggings are quite going to cut it as they have been slipping down my waist the more energetic (and toned – I wish!) the exercises become. So, I could really do with some new gym leggings – these are great as they are quick dry.

Long Crossover Coat £119 Zara

I don’t own a smart black coat so when I was in Zara and tried this on in a Medium I instantly wanted to buy it. I love the gold buttons – I think this makes the coat look more expensive and I love the double breasted design. Very chic and looks great with skinny jeans and boots. I’d love this for Christmas.

Kimberly Purse in Rose Gold £15 Dune via ASOS

I’ve been looking for a small wallet since my last one fell apart. I really like the compartments in this purse, plus it’s rose gold – what’s not to like. I also like small sized wallets as I tend to carry smaller bags at the weekend. This is so pretty!

Food for the mind:

Letters to My Fanny £5.59 Amazon
I used to watched Cherry Healey when she presented thought provoking and often controversial lifestyle documentaries on the BBC. She is smart, quirky and intelligent. For me, she’s a strong woman and I like her.  If the title is anything to go by, her book is going to be a real hoot and I really want to read this.

Lisa Eldridge Face Paint: The Story of Makeup £12.91 Amazon

I love Lisa Eldrige’s style, the way she applies makeup and her general love of makeup as an art and creative form. I’ve wanted this book for absolute ages – I imagine that it’s a page turning book filled with informative historical narrative and beautiful imagery which documents the makeup of previous decades and ages. The beauty geek in me would love this.

The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*&k: How to stop spending time you don’t have doing things you don’t want to do with people you don’t like £9.09 Amazon

Do I really need to say anymore?

#GirlBoss £6.99 Amazon

I like the title and vibes of this book. It always bugs me when women are described as ‘bossy’ when in fact they just get things done. I think the writer is extremely successful and I too want to be a girl boss and be proud of it.

Techy Present Ideas

San Disk Ultra 64gb Class 10 up to 80Mbps £18.09 Amazon

Now that I’m uploading regularly and doing weekend vlogs, you can never have enough memory cards. You won’t believe that I only have 1 memory card and it’s 32G. I desperately need another to make my vlogging life just a little bit easier.

64GB is perfect as it will fit up to 320 mins of HD Video.

The higher the Mbps the faster it will write to your pc so it will be quicker to download the video footage onto your computer.

Instant Polaroid Camera -Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Intant Camera £64.95 Amazon

I’ve been wanting a polaroid camera in ages and I know that the refill film can be pricey, but I still want it. I’d use it when friends and family visit and pop the photos on our fridge to create a memory wall. I don’t really print out my photos anymore – they are all stored on my laptop and I really miss the feel and look of actual prints. It’s nice to have a physical photo opposed to something on my laptop.

Body Shop Vitamin E Cream and Serum Sam Loves

I purchased the Body Shop’s Vitamin E Night Cream and Serum whilst killing time in Covent Garden waiting for my Osteo. My best friend Ling had been raving about the Serum and it was on promotion with the night cream. I love an offer and had to have both.

I’ve been using both products for a couple of months and here’s my thoughts:

Vitamin E Night Cream £11

It does what it says on the tin -it’s rich, very moisturising, non greasy and my skin feels smoother and softer. I’d say this is very good for dry and dehydrated skin. What puts me off is that it has a really thick consistency and feels heavy on the skin. I don’t like caking my skin in a thick moisturiser at night. The cream is highly fragranced – it reminds me of Johnson’s Baby Lotion. I suspect a fair few chemicals were used to achieve the pink colour and fragrance and this turns me off completely. MISS!

Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil £12

Impressed. I’ve applied it on its own and also added a few drops to my moisturiser and found it worked both ways. Great for dry skin as it helps to soften hard skin, also good for hands and elbows. Really light formula which the skin soaks up like a sponge. Face appears brighter and skin is softer the next day. Not sticky, greasy and no cheap scent. What I really like is that this is a serum and an oil all in one which speeds up my night skincare routine (a little!) .Thumbs up! HIT!

Not worth the hype – Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector | Sam Loves

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector | Sam LovesThe rep at the Clinique counter sold the Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector to my friend and I as an under eye treatment. She claimed that we would see a visible difference over a 2-3 week period. We were also told that it would help to reduce puffiness under the eyes. The more I used this as a night and day time treatment, the more I became exasperated with it for the following reasons:

  • My main gripe is that it contains a peachy/orange colour which once applied, is going to look like your eye is brighter and less dark as you are covering it with a colour! Not a treatment – a cover up!
  • It sits on the skin.
  • It brightens the eye area superficially – not a lasting treatment.
  • It has such sheer coverage that the blue/purple tones underneath are still visible- therefore not an effective corrector.
  • The metal applicator is designed to ‘cool’ the eye area and reduce puffiness- it will for the time you hold the applicator in place but after a couple of minutes the puffiness returns.

Bamboozled as to how it’s won so many beauty awards. In my humble opinion this is not worth the hype nor the price tag – sold as a dark circle eye repair but is actually a cover up which is so sheer you may as well purchase a concealer instead.

Sam does NOT love.

Hero Product – Ginvera Green Tea Exfoliating Marvel Gel

Ginvera Green Tea Exfoliating Marvel Gel | Sam Loves

Ginvera Green Tea Exfoliating Marvel GelThis is seriously good  and I was literally blown away when I used it last night.

I cleansed, applied a small amount on my fingertips and massaged it on to my face focusing on the dry and flaky areas. Within seconds I found that the gel bound to the dead skin cells and immediately formed little lumps of dead skin. Yes actual little lumps. After I washed my face, I didn’t feel like it had stripped my skin and my face felt noticeably smoother. 24 hours later and I haven’t had any reaction to it.
I have never used an exfoliator which has been this effective at literally lifting the dead skin off my face.

How it works:
The gel works by specifically targeting the cornified skin layer (dead hardened skin) dissolving and removing the dead skin cells.

As a general rule I do not use abrasive exfoliating scrubs and this is the perfect alternative. I am astounded at how effective and gentle it is. I stumbled across this in this month’s You Beauty Box as a sample and I’ve already ordered the full sized bottle at Cult Beauty for £22.00.

Big thumbs up!

Illamasqua – The Ultimate Skin Trinity

Illamasqua Ultimate Skin Trinity | Sam Loves

Illamasqua Ultimate Skin Trinity | Sam Loves

The Illamasqua Ultimate Skin Trinity is a a great introduction to the award winning Skin Base Foundation Range and you can snap up these three little gems for £50.00 at Illamasqua.

It comprises of:

It’s a great buy if you are curious about the Illamasqua range as individually they would cumulatively cost £70. I went to the Flagship store in London and was served by the very helpful Mark who made my shopping experience so much fun and exciting.

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation

This is one of my favourite foundations of all time. It gives a medium to full buildable coverage but also looks natural on the skin and is not cakey at all. Perfect if you need more coverage especially covering any red pigmentation on the cheeks as this cancels it out effectively. Amazing shade selection and I like to wear this when I am going out for the evening and want to achieve a flawless base. I’d say its good for Combination, Normal and Dry skin. I wear SB09.

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation SB09

Illamasqua Skin Base Lift

OK, so HOW pretty is the packaging? There should be diamonds in this not a concealer. I digress…..This may have kicked my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to the curb! It provides full brightening coverage for my under eye dark circles as it has colour correcting peach tones. I love it because even though it provides opaque coverage it is not cakey at all. I like to apply this with my fingers as I find brushes tend to leave too much debris in the pan which isn’t hygienic! I wear Medium 1.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil

This contains sodium hyaluronate which is a moisture boosting ingredient. The hydra veil can be used instead of a moisturiser and has a gel consistency. It rubs on to the face easily leaving it tacky so that the foundation glides on. I’ve heard that it’s good for both dry and oily skin and I like it on me. The dinky spatula also means that it is hygenic -horray!

Winter Essentials – Clarins HydraQuench Collection

Clarins Hydraquench Collection | Sam Loves

Clarins Hydraquench CollectionThis is billed as a ‘moisture must-have’ and I couldn’t agree more. If you have normal to dry skin, this may well be worth a look as I have seen a visible improvement in the condition of my skin since using this trio. I periodically suffer with dry patches around my chin area and two to three days after using this they simply disappear.

I use the HydraQuench cream and serum at night and apply the face mask once a week. The cream is thick, rich and emollient but it isn’t oily and absorbs quickly. It has a very pleasant scent that reminds me of sun cream and it doesn’t irritate my skin. The serum is light and has a watery consistency.  They all contain Hyaluronic Acid which holds one thousand times its weight in water and enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture and therefore skin appears plumper and smoother.

This is my current favourite SOS treatment for dry and dehydrated skin as it leaves my skin feeling nothing short of amazing. This is my second repurchase and is a staple in my winter skincare regime.

It’s currently on offer  -normally £34.00 now £23.80 at Clarins.

I have been using Clinique’s Take the Day off Cleansing Balm for the past 5 months on a daily basis. I love this product and it’s my current favourite cleanser that removes all my makeup including waterproof mascara in an easy and gentle way. It’s fragrance free and is suitable for my sensitive skin.

I take the balm on my fingertips and massage it gently on to my face. Initially it has a wax-like consistency but once it’s on the skin it dissolves which means you can massage it on to your face. Nice if you have a bit of time and enjoy a mini facial massage!   I also apply the balm to my eye area and have found that it is extremely effective at removing waterproof mascara. I just lightly tap the product on to my eyes-no rubbing (please!) and voilà the mascara melts! Added bonus- it does not sting my eyes.
I then take a warm flannel and wipe everything off. It literally takes the day off and leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. Plus the use of the flannel helps to exfoliate my skin. Yippee!

Why I love Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
I think this is one of the best cleansers on the market as I only have to lightly massage the balm in to my skin and eye area  and it removes everything – it does all the work so I don’t have to.  I loathe using cleansers where I have to sit there and continually rub and scrub at my poor face. Invest in a good product like this and you won’t have to.

Also a little goes a long way- after 5 months of use there is still loads left in the tub so this is a great skincare investment.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed OilCaprylic/capric TriglycerideSorbeth-30 TetraoleatePolyethylene, Peg-5 Glyceryl Triisostearate, WaterTocopherolPhenoxyethanol.

Could it be for you?
I think the balm would be suitable for pretty much everyone. I suffer from sensitive skin and I don’t feel a burning sensation or break out when I use this. It is fragrance free so unlikely to irritate your skin and is also mineral oil free.

Available to purchase online at Boots, Debenhams and John Lewis.
